One of the biggest complaints from avid Playstation 4 gamers is the rather dull battery life of the Dualshock 4 controller. Many players find that the PS4 Dualshock controller will get about 4-5 hours of gameplay on a single charge then it’s back to charge via USB. Like many of the Playstation 4 accessories, the Venom rechargeable battery pack came out just about 2 years ago. With several battery packs for the Playstation 4 controller now available we are going to take a look at the Venom rechargeable battery pack for Dualshock 4 and why PlayConn wireless charging system is a step above the competition.
The Venom rechargeable battery pack for PS4 is a simple to use additional power supply for the Dualshock 4 controllers. At about $20 it is a economical way to increase the battery life of your PS4 controller but lacks in several major areas.
Venom PS4 Battery Pack Design
The first thing we noticed was the bulky and cumbersome design. The PS4 rechargeable battery pack snaps onto the Dualshock controller via USB and a hinged mount for the front side. As you can see from the pictures the battery pack takes up a lot of space under and in the back of the PS4 controller. This oddly shaped battery pack throws off the balance of the controller and increases the weight. PlayConn wireless battery modules not only are designed to be light and durable but also you only need to snap them on (yeah we use magnets!) when you need to power up!
The attachment of the Venom rechargeable battery pack for Playstation 4 is more complicated than it appears. The battery pack’s USB connector slides out but is still attached to the main body by a wire. You will need to slide the loose connection into the charging port on your PS4 controller and then pull the clip all the way back on its hinge. This clip needs to sit just below the PlayStation Home button and there’s a hole for the headphone jack that lets you know where it needs to sit. Once that’s positioned, you’ll be able to slide the USB connector into place in the battery pack’s main body. Once it is finally secured, the Venom battery pack stay rather secure due to the front and back attachments. The front attachment does make accessing the Playstation Home button rather awkward. The power indicator is also a cheap looking LED next to the mirco USB charging input.
With PlayConn power solutions for PS4 you never have to worry about getting your power mods to attach!
Charging the Venom Playstation 4 Battery Pack
The Venom battery pack for PS4 requires that you detach it from the controller. This makes use of the battery pack even more awkward. This another design feature we thought of when engineering PlayConn. With PlayConn for PS4 no more taking your battery mods on and off to charge. You can have power with a just a snap at anytime!
